Insanity in Weekend Form

We're crazy. Yes - The Targo and I are insane. I think even a Texan jury would agree.

A couple of months ago, my mom made plans to bring my 9 year old cousin to Chicago to go to the aquarium and the zoo. I told her that they could stay with The Targo and me. Nine year olds aren't that big. We can wedge him between some boxes.

At some point, my dear dad invited himself and my 8 year old nephew along. I was all "No. No no no no... Well, you'd better get a hotel." My mom, the source of my procrastination gene, waited and waited and waited. And suddenly, the only hotel rooms she could find were out by O'Hare Airport. The Targo, because he's either a saint or suffering from some sort of delusions, offered to let all million of them stay with us. It wasn't an empty offer either. I told my mom that The Targo offered (it was totally an empty offer on my part) and she hemmed and hawed. This was last Friday.

I thought they'd call me back and let me know what they were going to do. I finally called them Wednesday, as in two days ago, and said "are you guys still coming to Chicago?" My dad said "Yeah. I thought you'd assume we were staying with you. Your mom said you offered." After I muttered stuff under my breath, we got everything settled.

This weekend, my 750 square foot apartment will have two cats, two 8/9 year old boys, two women, and two men over six feet tall as its residents. I love all of these people dearly, but what in the world was I thinking? Thank God we've got central air now. Otherwise I'm pretty sure I'd go postal.

Somewhat related, there's an air show going on in Chicago this weekend. I used to live by one of the harbors the Oh-my-word-LOUD planes would go over. Here's what I don't get: The Lincoln Park Zoo is just a smidge south of one of the busy harbors and not too far north of another. I guess there's a jet that's so loud that the animals all freak out. I'm just curious why the LPZ board doesn't request a no fly zone over the zoo. I mean, it's pretty likely that they have the economic means to do so.

I hope that you are still alive on Monday.

Wow, that IS a lot of people. That should be, well, a long weekend.

My cats HATE the air show. I'm farther north, but they come up our way to turn around. And my cats damn near jump out of their skin EVERY TIME. It's a little fun to watch.

Ooo...have fun! I can't even imagine having that many people in my house.

When we have an air show around here (care of Scott Air Force Base), my dog thinks were being attacked. So, he hides in a corner and whines.

Hmmm . . . can you just send them all to the air show?
